Who Are We?

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a distinguished organization dedicated to advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Since its founding in 1881, AAUW members have continuously examined and taken positions on key issues affecting society, whether they are educational, social, economic, or political in nature. The Greater Wayne Area (GWA) branch remains steadfast in upholding this mission within our local community.

AAUW Greater Wayne Area Branch

The Greater Wayne Area branch is one of over 1,000 AAUW branches across the nation. Our vision is centered around supporting several core objectives:

  • Advocating for public policies at the local level that promote equity for women and girls.
  • Encouraging and supporting girls in New Jersey who are pursuing studies and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.
  • Providing financial assistance to women who wish to further their educational goals.

Greater Wayne Charitable Fund

To further the branch’s philanthropic efforts, the Greater Wayne Area branch established a 501(c)(3) organization known as the Greater Wayne Charitable Fund (GWCF). The main purpose of this fund is to offer donors a means to make tax-deductible contributions to the branch’s scholarship fund. The GWCF tax ID number is 99-1990958, and all donations made to this fund are fully tax-exempt.

What Is a 501(c)(3) Organization?

A 501(c)(3) organization is a specific type of nonprofit entity that is exempt from federal income tax under the IRS code. To qualify, the organization must be organized and operated exclusively for purposes that are charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, or aimed at preventing cruelty to children or animals. Additionally, none of the funds raised by such an organization may benefit any private shareholder or individual.
