AAUW Greater Wayne Area Branch Scholarship Program
Overview
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Greater Wayne Area branch is committed to helping individuals who are returning to college to complete their first undergraduate degree. Each year, the branch awards scholarships to support students with the financial challenges they may face while pursuing higher education. Through this initiative, the organization aims to support academic achievement, particularly for women who aspire to achieve their educational goals.
For the year 2025, the AAUW Greater Wayne Area branch awarded three scholarships, each with a value of $3,500. Additionally, the branch contributed $500 to the AAUW National Funds, supporting educational opportunities for women throughout the United States.
The deadline to apply for the 2026 AAUW Greater Wayne Area branch scholarship(s) is April 10, 2026.
Scholarship Eligibility
Applicants must meet several eligibility requirements to be considered for the AAUW Greater Wayne Area Scholarship.
College Enrollment Requirement
Applicants must be enrolled and pursuing a first bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university.
Residency Requirement
Eligible applicants must currently reside in Northern New Jersey, specifically in one of the following counties: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, or Warren.
Demographic Requirement
Applicants must be at least twenty-five years old in the year they submit their application. Preference will be given to women.
Academic Performance Requirement
Candidates must demonstrate a strong academic record by providing evidence that their cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) is above average. Acceptable documentation includes official transcripts or grade reports from the accredited college or university where the applicant is currently enrolled.
Financial Need Requirement
Although a formal financial statement is not required, applicants are asked to provide information that enables the Scholarship Committee to assess their financial need. This information helps ensure that scholarships are granted to individuals for whom financial assistance will have a significant impact.
Selection Process
The Scholarship Committee reviews all applications and selects the recipients. Finalists may be contacted for a personal interview as part of the application process. All applicants will be notified of the Scholarship Committee’s decision by early May 2026. Scholarships will be awarded at a dinner in May 2026, where recipients are requested to attend and give a brief two- to three-minute speech about their current academic pursuits and plans.
