Scholarship Application

The AAUW Greater Wayne Area Branch Scholarship Committee awards annual scholarships with a preference for women returning to college to complete their first undergraduate degree. The scholarships are intended to help ease the burden of college expenses for the recipients. Scholarships are reviewed and selected by the AAUW Greater Wayne Branch scholarship committee. in 2024, our organization awarded three $3000 scholarships in addition to donating $500 to AAUW National Funds.

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY

Qualified applicants must be:

  • A resident of Northern New Jersey, living in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, or Union County.
  • At least twenty-five years old by the application year
  • Enrolled at an accredited college or university seeking a first undergraduate bachelor’s degree and expected to complete all coursework after September 2025. If you already have a bachelor’s degree, you are not eligible for our scholarship.
  • Able to provide proof of a better than average GPA

Students who have previously been awarded an AAUW Scholarship from this branch are not eligible.

PROCEDURES FOR SUBMITTING 2025 APPLICATION

Applicants must apply on-line.

All applications must be received on or before Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Applications that are incomplete or received after Wednesday, April 9, will not be considered.

Important: Please proofread your application for spelling and grammar since errors may influence the committee’s decision when choosing final-round applicants. Answer all questions, or mark N/A if not applicable. Pay particular attention to questions with a red star.

SELECTION OF AWARDEES

The Scholarship Committee of the AAUW Greater Wayne Area Branch will review the applications and select the recipient(s).   Finalists may be contacted for a personal interview during the application review process.

All applicants will be notified of the committee’s scholarship award decision by early May 2025.

The Scholarship Award will be presented at a dinner in May. Scholarship winners are requested to attend and be prepared to talk for 2-3 minutes on their current scholastic activity and post-graduate plans.

  • Applicants must live in one of the following NJ counties to be eligible for the scholarship: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, or Union. Place an X in the box next to your county of residence.
  • Educational Background

  • B.A., etc.
  • Full name of the school, city, state and country location.
  • Name and locations of colleges previously attended, include date(s) and GPA.
  • Activities and Awards

  • Give dates of involvement and leadership roles you performed such as delegate, chairperson, or officer.
  • Financial Need

  • Please provide the names of three academic or professional references. Do not include relatives, co-workers or personal friends.
  • The following items must be submitted to complete your application.

    • Copy of paid bill from present semester that includes your name, name of college and the date.
    • Current transcript - A copy of the most recent transcript you have received is acceptable; an official, stamped transcript from the college’s Registrar is not required. Must include your name and date. Screen shots that do not include all requested information are not acceptable.
